HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?
Batu Kawan Industrial Park has been chosen as the place to pilot this project and the young motorcycle riders are observed because they are the group of people who presently at high risk for road fatalities.
Firstly, baseline parameters will be identified because of this needs to be an outcome-based initiative so baseline data from the industries, PDRM records and PERKESO claims will be used.
Then, commuting behaviour will be identified with the help of the baseline data from the industries. The employee commuting data will be analysed. For instance, the majority of the workers in Batu Kawan travel as far as 42 km from Kulim and also Kepala Batas. Traveling distance is among the information recorded and based on past accidents records, it is possible to identify maps hazard and risk spots common to workers in BKIP.
The intervention will follow using the data that has been analysed and based on the mapping. Training will be the responsibilities of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Boon Siew Honda (BSH). BSH trainers are certified riders, trained trainers and their training are continuously being updated.
As mention before, this framework also looking at the other causal factors together with the human factors. Thus, this is where PLUS and state agencies will come in. In state level, a working committee has been formed which include the police and other agencies to help with this project.
At the end, the intervention effects will be measured and compared with the baseline data, PDRM records and PERKESO records which are recorded earlier.
Thus, this will help to achieve the design to create a safer commuting for Batu Kawan Industrial Park community.
